David Hathaway’s evangelistic crusade in Vilnius, Lithuania: AN EYEWITNESS ACCOUNT by Tess Wieteska, Church of the Living Saviour, Geneva.
HEALING MIRACLES – These are what people expect to see in evangelistic crusades, especially those of David Hathaway whose unique and outstanding ministry spans 50 amazing years! And yes, like in all his crusades all over the world, thousands upon thousands who attended his 3-day crusade in Vilnius were not disappointed. We saw supernatural, miraculous and astounding healing miracles! Everywhere I looked, I saw the faces of people in awe of what God was doing in our midst.
The vast number of people who filled the Siemens stadium brought with them a great multitude of needs (physical, emotional and spiritual) – that can be met only by a loving God who is so much greater than all of the people’s needs combined! As David preached messages on unwavering faith in our all-powerful and all-loving God, his words touched our hearts, healed our pain, took away our shame, and melted our sorrows. Jesus said, “If you lift Me up, I will draw all men unto Me”. On stage, one can almost “see” and “hear” Jesus standing with David as he related his faith-raising and life-transforming stories about the faithfulness of this very real God!
On the final night of the crusade, David spoke about the unfathomable love of God for all of us. He likened it to the love of a mother for her baby, and the joy that fills her heart everytime she touches her little one. While listening to the preaching, I found myself sobbing uncontrollably beside my husband. Since I first gave my heart to Jesus in 2000, I have never sobbed the way I did that night. Oh, the love of Jesus!!!
I know that the Lord healed many sick people of their diseases during the crusade. If these were all that the Lord did, that would have been newsworthy of itself. Yet I also know that there was far greater and deeper healing that happened in Vilnius - the kind of healing that only our precious Lord can do, healing in body, soul and spirit.
I thank the Lord daily for David Hathaway’s life and ministry. At age 77, he is both an inspiration and a challenge to all of us to keep the fire of God’s love burning in our hearts as we do mighty things in His Name. David’s great love and compassion for people is matched only by his unstoppable desire to bring the gospel to the lost! I enjoin all of you to continue to support David’s mission and ministry not only with prayers but with the vital financial support needed to continue these crusades!
