 Reflections on Israel

Thousands of Holocaust survivors attended David Hathaway's November meetings in Israel. It was a very unique event - these survivors have experienced terror and horror, and still live with bitter memories of their wartime experiences and losses: their entire families were wiped out; their loved ones were killed before their eyes. After listening to David preach and pray, they found a new hope and faith. We have developed a long term relationship with these survivors - we were able to provide humanitarian aid, food and other essential items - also, our representatives will keep co-operating with them to help them grow in their faith.

Dr Sergey Sushon, First Vice Chairman of the Council Association, Association of Concentration Camps and Ghetto Survivors in Israel, wrote about these services: 'We who were miraculously preserved from destruction during the Nazi orgy admire you who are engaged in a friendship, support, and fellowship with us, former prisoners, here in Israel. We highly appreciate your care and desire to instil in us faith in goodness and justice. Your support in word and deed forever remain in our hearts and in the history of the nation ... We believe in the power of God's Word and we are interested in your prayers and for the peace and prosperity of Israel. Thank you!'

Abram Grinzayd, Chairman of the Veterans Union of the Second World War, said: "We learned a lot of good things from you. Let us express to you our deep appreciation for the invitation to take part in the unforgettable meetings with you in Haifa ... We are deeply touched by your preaching of the Gospel and your great faith."

'Jesus travelled through all the cities and villages announcing the Good News about the Kingdom. And wherever He went, He healed people of every sort of disease and illness. He felt great pity for the crowds that came, because their problems were so great and they didn't know where to go for help' (Matthew 9:35-36).

Israel First Day, November

Israel First Day, November

On Thursday 24 November more than 1000 Holocaust Survivors from all over southern Israel packed an auditorium in Jerusalem to overflowing, filling the balconies and seating behind the stage - extra chairs were fetched from nearby restaurants and cafes to accommodate all the people! Representatives of 4 different organisations greeted David: 'For us, tortured by the Nazis, it is a great privilege to meet with you, David, because you love and support those who lost 6 million, victims of Hitler's crimes. We, Nazi Camp Survivors, are now in our 70s, 80s and 90s. With our severe childhood we, who overcame the horrors of the Holocaust, need care in our older age. Our hearts are over-filled with joy that in this world there are people like you who remember us who survived that hell and butchery.'

In this atmosphere, David said, 'I want to give you a new hope. The Bible is full of God's love for Jewish people. I have tried to understand what happened to you in the ghettos and death camps. The Bible shows God has always brought you through suffering into a tremendous deliverance and a tremendous future. God set His Son, Son of David, Son of God, to rescue us. Despised, rejected, He was beaten and died for you, here, in this land. Yeshua is searching for you, He wants to heal you. We cannot forget, but we cannot live forever in hurt in our own hearts. You have written the names of your loved ones in your Holocaust memorials, but Yeshua wants to give you a new life and write your name in Heaven.'

One of the ladies who spoke in the meeting, Gita, went into the ghetto aged 2, her mother, Hannah, died there aged only 22. She said, I am 2 people, the good in me is my mother speaking. Gita was 5 when she came out of the ghetto.
