'We ought to lay our lives down for those who are our brothers in Christ. But of anyone has this world's goods [resources for sustaining life] and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart of compassion against him, how can the love of God live and remain in him? Little children, let us not love [merely] in theory or in speech, but in deed and in truth [in practice and in sincerity].' (1 John 3:16-18, Amp)
In February David was invited to hold a series of meetings across Ukraine. The first series was church evangelism in Slovyansk and Kramatorsk, East Ukraine. These are pioneer churches with a vision to reach the drug addict, the alcoholic, the homeless, destitute children and the very poor - the outcasts of society for whom Jesus died! The founder of these churches, Pastor Sergey Diomyn, found Christ more than 20 years ago when he was in prison for drug-related crimes. Powerfully converted, he is driven by a vision to win the hopelessly lost for Christ.
The second series of meetings was in Krivoy Rog. Pastors Grigori and Galina Suhina invited David to hold four days of church evangelism. Pastor Galina grew up under communist persecution in the 1960s and 70s. When she was a child, her grandfather was in prison for his faith, and she was discriminated against at school by her teachers and classmates. It was illegal for young people to attend Christian meetings, but she went anyway: "It was a good time, we had such a hunger for God!" Galina said, "What we have today is from our fathers and grandfathers. We are reaping what they sowed under persecution!"
