 Spiritual Warfare

God has called us to advance not retreat!

Many people talk about 'spiritual warfare', to me, this is the ability to come before the Lord in prayer, receive power, then get out there where the action is. In order to do this we need to know who we are in Christ and what authority and power we have. If we are going to respond to the enormous challenge which is facing us today we need fewer words and more action. Surely anyone who realises they have power and authority, and who also know their God, is going to get out there and do the job they are called to do.

We need intercessors. These are generally assumed to be the ones who stay at home and pray; we need more and more of these who are like Aaron and Hur, who held up the arms of Moses while the Israelites were in battle (Exodus 17:12). But what I also read in Scripture is that intercessors like Moses and Elijah were renowned for their action. They had the ability to confront the enemy where he was. Whether you are called to be at home or on the front line, get into action - this is all-out war. God has called us to advance, and stop retreating. With spiritual warfare the best form of defence is to attack the devil in Jesus' Name. The Bible says, 'For this cause was the Son of God manifest, to destroy the works of the devil!' (1 John 3:8). The Bible also says that we are called to do the works of Christ.

Europe is now in the greatest spiritual battle of all time. The reason why, in these last days the Antichrist will be revealed - and we have the prophecies regarding the 'Mark of the Beast', the tribulation and the other terrible destructions predicted in Revelation. We need to stop the devil by spiritual warfare, but how?

1. We need authority - We have tremendous authority here on earth when we pray in accordance with the Bible using the Name of Jesus. Our power with God is through the baptism of the Holy Spirit, and through our relationship with God in prayer following that experience. 'I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy' (Luke 10:19).

2. We need faith - We all accept the need of faith in our lives, especially as without it we cannot be saved, but this kind of faith is different. This faith is a Gift of the Spirit (1 Corinthians 12). I challenge you to begin to act in the power and authority of your faith.

3. We need vision - If we really knew our God and had a vision of His greatness and power, we would attempt the impossible and overcome every obstacle. Your vision of God needs to be greater than your fear!

4. We need obedience - In 1 Chronicles 28:20, David says to his son Solomon, "Be strong and courageous, and DO THE WORK! Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you until all the work for the service of the temple of the Lord is finished."

All the evidence is that the Lord is coming back very soon. If you believe this as I do, it will affect the way you live and what you do with your time and resources. If you look at the situation in the world and see the evidence of Christ's return, then what is your response? We've got a battle on every front. The devil is at war against the saints. But we have victory in Jesus Name!
