TV EVANGELISM – KOSTANAI, KAZAKHSTAN – APRIL 2008

David has just returned from celebrating the Orthodox Easter in the remote city of Kostanai, close to the Kazakhstan/Russian border. We flew into the capital city Astana and from there travelled eight hours by car on pot-holed roads, arriving just in time for the opening meeting. But Easter is a strategic time to evangelise because, because despite the fact that Kazakhstan is a Moslem country, the local authorities are more or less obliged by law to allow the event, and there is still a natural instinct among non-believers to wish to join in a major Christian festival. Even Moslems attended and the hall was packed for every meeting (five thousand attended in three days).

The people poured forward, weeping, to receive Christ as their Saviour, and the miracles confirming the Gospel were outstanding. One young man came on the first night, totally paralysed down his right side after a car accident four weeks ago. On that first night he began to walk again unaided, and on the third day his arm was completely restored! Another young man, being treated in hospital for TB, had been sent home for the Easter weekend. His mother sent him to the meeting – and now he can breathe freely again!

TV-EVANGELISM – IRKUTSK – RUSSIA – APRIL 2008

We have just come back from the most powerful crusade in Irkutsk, Siberia, Russia. Eight churches worked together to fill the indoor sport stadium – 3000 each night for 3 nights! Three thousand came forward to repent over the 3 nights: many were young people, drug addicts, alcoholics, weeping their way into the Kingdom. Jesus said He did not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance – like the broken young man facing me, shaken by his tears, by his failure – and by the love of God. The miracles of healing, as always, were the most powerful confirmation of the Gospel.

For many years, it was in David’s heart to evangelise in Irkutsk, one of the oldest major settlements in Russia, and an infamous place of exile over hundreds of years. Only one big crusade has ever been held in this city and that was 15 years ago! Even though the leading pastor in Irkutsk is a close friend of our crusade organiser in Russia, Dmitri was never able to get a hall for evangelism, due to opposition from the authorities. What made it more difficult was that he needed to get papers and documents signed by the authorities to enable him to build a church building, so he was literally being ‘held to ransom’! But last summer he invited David to speak to all the local pastors and church leaders – and they were all so filled with the fire for evangelism that within 2 days they emailed our office to say that they would organise for us! Whatever the cost! And by a miracle the papers are now signed for the start of the church building!

David said, “Jesus died to forgive your sin, and God raised Him from the dead. We can celebrate the fact that Jesus is alive today! He wants to come into your life; put Jesus in your life now! If you want the courage to go through life without fear, I want you to see Jesus! The answer to fear, to the problems you have, is to know Jesus, to see Him, to receive Him into your life. I want you to know Jesus as I know Him, so you can know the Jesus who can deliver you, who can break the curse, who can take away your fear. I know Jesus. He has taken the fear out of my life, and He wants to take the fear out of your life. Jesus wants you to have faith in Him. What is faith? – I’ll tell you what faith is – it’s the power that takes you through life! Look to Him, trust Him and He will deliver you. Who? Jesus will deliver you! He will deliver you in every crisis, in every problem, in every fear – only Jesus can deliver you and set you free. He wants to do it now! Whatever the problem in your life, He’ll change your life now!”

As in every place where we hold a crusade, every new believer receives a welcome pack containing a New Testament, details of the local churches they can attend, and a contact form they can fill in with with their name and address and return to the ushers. It is the local pastors open the meeting each night, who introduce David for the preaching and who, after the sinners’ prayer, address the new believers from the platform. David always makes a special point of connecting the people with the pastors, and all the churches run special follow-up programmes to teach the new believers.

TV-EVANGELISM – SYKTYVKAR – RUSSIA – MARCH 2008

The sport hall was packed with 1300 people every night, and on the last night it was so full that believers had to leave to get all the unbelievers in! Next time we’ll take the outdoor stadium! The power of God in the city has so multiplied as a result of our evangelism in 2004, 2007 and now 2008, that the main organising church has out-grown its building and believers are being added to all the other participating churches. Yet this was one city where we originally met with extreme opposition from the authorities and the KGB knocked on David’s door to arrest him – but they could not, because he had an all-Russia religious visa which gives him freedom to hold crusades everywhere!

Our first visit was also marked by a most powerful healing: Katya, 13 years old, had never walked in her life. Her mother, Alyona, said, “I fell when I was pregnant and my baby was born with a brain haemorrhage. She never walked at all.” But in our evangelism in 2004, Jesus completely healed the teenage girl! She walked for the first time! Now four years later she is a radiant 17 year old! But more than that: Alyona miscarried so many times and lost so many babies in those 13 years after Katya’s birth. But after Katya’s healing, Alyona has given birth first to a healthy baby boy, then another girl! Mother and father and Katya are so happy with the new babies! As a result the whole family – grandparents and relatives – has come to know Christ! The miracle is known in the whole city.

David said, “I believe in the power of God. I have faith! I’m saved by faith! I live by faith – by faith in the word of God! – By faith in the power of God! When I evangelise, I KNOW God will work miracles and I dare to say this, (and you can only say this if you know it by real experience with God), “If there are no miracles of healing tonight, God is dead, the Bible is not true and there is no Gospel.” God ALWAYS works miracles. When you see the power of God in action, that is the evidence that Jesus is alive, that the God of miracles is alive, that God has power today! You and I have to tap into that power!”

The very next day the local churches began the care of the new converts with a special meeting and refreshments. They have 1000 new names and addresses to follow up!
