TV- Crusade Krasnoyarsk, Siberia, Russia

June 2007

Our TV crusade in Krasnoyarsk occurred at a time of heightened political tension between Russia and Britain – up until our very arrival the local government threatened to tear up our legal contract with the sporthall. (All this because Britain was demanding the extradition from Russia of a prominent politician accused of the murder last year of Russian dissident living in Britain, Alexander Litvinenko. But Russia was angry that Britain has continually refused to allow the extradition of Russian dissidents living under the protection of the British government, and in addition was accusing Britain of luring young Russians into our schools and universities to train them up as spies.) But the Director of the sporthall resisted this great opposition. Why did he take such a personal risk for us? – He was an unbeliever when we held our meetings in his hall one year ago, but when he heard the message of the love of God and saw the thousands who repented and the sick who were healed, he said to us afterwards, “If only one life were truly changed it would all have been worth it!” So he refused to cave in to the pressure from the authorities, and when they criticised our distribution of humanitarian aid to the poor of the city, he challenged them, “Why don’t you do this for your own people?”

So despite all, the meetings took place and were broadcast to the whole region, reaching 5 million, on the normal secular TV channel.

David writes: We have a baptism of Fire and of Power which changes men. Two things will change your life: when you repent and come to Christ, and then when you are filled with the Holy Ghost. Jesus said in John 16:7: “I tell you the truth, it’s necessary for you that I go away, for if I don’t go away the Comforter won’t come, but if I go, I will send Him to you!” – This is the promise of the Holy Spirit! How do people get saved? What is the relationship between the baptism of the Holy Spirit and people getting saved? Jesus said, “When the Holy Spirit is come, He will reprove the world of sin.” – He is the active agent who brings the conviction of sin. Only the Holy Spirit in you will convince your family, your friends, the people in the street of their need for Christ. In this crusade in Krasnoyarsk as I preached Jesus, there were tears in the eyes of the people all over the building. When I made the call to repentance, I just stood there as hundreds poured down from their seats, 70% of the people present! And they came so quickly, tears in their eyes. A young man from my staff who was in Russia with me for the first time said, “I’ve never seen young men crying when the preacher calls them to repent.” – People under the conviction of sin, young people crying because God has touched their heart! It’s not me, it’s the Holy Spirit who brings conviction of sin. It’s the work of the Holy Spirit in us to bring people to Jesus. We need the Holy Spirit. Anyone can tell you to repent – only Jesus can tell you He loves you, that He wants to be part of your life, heal you and change you.

In the same way that the unbelievers poured forward to repent in these meetings, so did the sick to testify of their amazing healings. Jesus asked, “Which is the easier, to forgive sin or to heal the sick?” – Matthew 9:1-7. The answer is simple, only God has the power to forgive sin and to heal the sick. And He does this to show that His Son Jesus has power on earth, in this life, today.
